At Hampton Beach Dental, we prioritise preventative dental health measures such as regular check-ups, cleanings, and dental hygiene education to help all members of the family maintain healthy, smiles for life. By addressing any potential issues early on, we can often prevent the need for more complex and costly treatments down the road.
How do we help?
We make it easy for you to fit in a visit.
We place huge importance on making sure you are physically comfortable and that your mind is at ease. We have plush recliners and in-chair entertainment to help you relax, and our dentists and hygienists are respectful and understanding of each patient’s individual situation and needs.
We will always give you clear explanations about your procedure and will be happy to answer any questions you may have at any stage to assure you that you are in safe hands.
Our dedicated team asks all the relevant questions about your habits and lifestyle to help us determine the cause of your dental disease. This approach provides the best for our patients – not just a quick fix but lifelong improved dental outcomes.
Regular check-ups and cleans are an important part of dental disease prevention, as we will be able to monitor your teeth and gums and make sure they are being maintained and cared for to the best of your and our ability. We also recommend periodic x-rays every few years to examine in even further detail the condition under old fillings and in between teeth.
Tooth decay prevention
We want to help you prevent tooth decay before it starts. Here’s what we recommend:
- Brush your teeth twice a day, after breakfast and before going to bed.
- Use fluoride toothpaste.
- Floss once a day.
- See your dentist for regular check-ups so that any early problems can be treated before more complex and costly treatments may be required.
- Minimise “in between meal” snacks and don’t snack before bedtime. Food left on teeth overnight is more likely to cause cavities.
- Avoid foods and drinks that are high in sugar, especially soft drinks, sweet cereal, desserts, and sticky foods.
Gum disease prevention
Regular check-ups can also prevent gum disease. At home, you need to brush at least twice a day and floss at least once a day to reduce the build up of plaque which is usually the cause of gum disease. Mouthwashes can sometimes also be useful as an adjunct to thorough brushing and flossing.
Mouthguards
If you’re regularly involved in playing sport, custom fitted mouthguards can reduce the risk of severe dental trauma. Football, basketball, hockey and martial arts are some sports with a high risk of dental injury.
